Find and replace

Post by eswul62 »

Up front: IF at all possible...

It would be nice to have an option, say under 'Tools', that allows me to batch replace a PART (!) of names of files and folders.

So, for example, I search for ABC

Everything finds
ABC-1-2-3-this and that.jpg
ABC 123-so and so.png
ABC-123-bla bla bla.tif

I'd like to select ABC-1-2-3 and ABC-123 and rename to to ABC 123 resulting into:

ABC 123-this and that.jpg
ABC 123-so and so.png
ABC 123-bla bla bla.tif

So to get a little more 'uniform way' of naming files/folders.

Thanks

I would recommend a 3rd party renamer for this.

I have added support for basic multi-file renaming in the next release of Everything.

I'll consider adding more functionality to Everything's multi-file renamer if it will be useful without adding too much bloat.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for the below. Currently I indeed use a 3rd party renamer.

However, if I (or any user) would like to change part of the names of -say- a dozen files
located in various folders, that requires quite some 'handling'.
Whereas in fact the filenames are listed in the GUI.
Changing one by one there is possible, but if it would be possible to something like find-replace there,
it would be great.

Anyway, let's see what the next version will be bringing.

Thanks again!

Add: Sendto to context menu.

Happen to have 1-4a rename open at the moment & have been dragging diversely located files from Everything into it, to rename the same in a more standardized fashion.
