Backing up Everything

Post by harryray2 »

I backup my Everything folder fairly frequently...normally I exit Everything, stop the Everything service then copy the folder.
Obviously I need to exit but do I need to stop the service?

I'm running 1.5 and keep all the files in one folder including the database and the ini file.

Also, is it possible to exit Everything and stop the service from Everything or do I have to stop the service manually?

Thanks.

There is no need to stop the service or Everything.
Just backup the Everything.ini and all .csv files

I only (& I imagine I don't need to even do it) stop (actually, I uninstall) the service when I put in a new alpha.
(Force of habit. So at this point, even if I don't need to do it, I will.)

When I copy my Everything directory, I copy the .db too, so that would need a Quit (Exit) from Everything.
Whether an actual Quit is needed for .ini .csv (or other files other then the .db), not sure, but again, I'd Quit (by habit).

Check the help/faq regarding command-line options which may (?) handle stopping of the service.

I exit everything as a matter of course so that all the files can be updated when backing up the folder...I'm wondering if it's necessary to stop the service as well.
As far as I can tell, not stopping the service doesn't make any difference but I'm not 100% sure.

I know I can restart from the search bar but I'm wondering if I can exit Everything and stop the service at the same time from the search bar.

The Everything Service is stateless (it has no config)

You can leave the Everything Service running when backing up or restoring your settings.

I do recommend exiting Everything (File -> Exit) before backing up or restoring your settings.

The Everything Service cannot be stopped from the search bar.
