I have often forgotten to reset the filter to "everything", and as a result, missed out many search results.
It would be nice to change the background color of the Results List panel to remind the user that a filter is active, and the results are partially hidden.
For this, please add a "filtered" state for Results list item in the Fonts and Colors settings.
This feature is already there in several apps, such as FreeCommander, xplorer2 and jDownloader.
Suggested feature: Allow change of fonts and colors in the Search list when a filter is active

I never have the problem to forget reseting the filter,
because my Home definition sets the filter to Everything.
Therefore any new search window will start with Everything.

That's a good tip!
That said, we may want to use the last value of the filter in general.
In that case, a change of background color will provide a reminder.

Re: Suggested feature: Allow change of fonts and colors in the Search list when a filter is active
I've sometimes been caught by an unanticipated filter. I have a shortcut key for my main one which I use to revert it when I spot my result is missing.
However that doesn't cover for when you're generating a list and so won't necessarily notice missing items.
In my case the usual filter isn't Everything (i.e. when the filter is on, I wouldn't want a warning) so for the concept to apply, the colours would need to be a per-filter setting (either opt-in to colouring, or opt-out) with a setting for what the colour would be. Opt-out may be more helpful since filters would generate colour until told not to on that filter...

Idea is to color the Filter bar (menu:View => Filter bar (1.5) / Filters (1.4) ) when Everything isn't the active filter.
I agree with Horst: setting a Home filter (menu:Tools => Options => General => Home) is very helpful.
Making it a habit to ccheck the statusbar will help too as it will show the most important search settings that have influence on current results.
