How to copy/paste results?

Post by terrypin »

I'm trying to copy search hits to the clipboard so that I can paste them into my text editor for further work. But after selecting all of them and using Edit > Copy, there was nothing on the clipboard. Why is that please?

I then tried Tools > File List editor, which seemed relevant. But how do I use it? It gave me an empty window, instead of a window full of the selected data as I'd expected. I see no mention of it in Help. (A search for File List editor gave no results.)

Edit -> Copy will copy the actual file (not the filename).

Please select your files and try File -> Copy Full Name to Clipboard.

Thanks for the fast reply. But I don't have such an option!

Perhaps you meant Right click > Send To > Clipboard as Name ? But I want all the columns.

To copy all columns you will need to export to a text file and copy from that.
To export all the results click Export from the File menu.

Keep in mind this will export all the results (not the selection).

If you would like to copy just the selection as CSV you will need to bind a key to the Result List | Copy selection to clipboard as CSV from Tools -> Options -> Keyboard

Using the Export option from the File menu does not give me all of the columns. Is there a way to export the Size and Date as well as the filename and path?

Everything will export all the visible columns when you save as CSV.

I still cannot seem to get it. File, Export, only .txt or *.* is shown as an option. If I type .csv as the extension I still only get one column. Pardon the ignorance. Can you elaborate on how I can get it?

You will need Everything 1.3 or later to export to csv.

To export as CSV in Everything 1.3:
  • From the File menu, click Export.
  • Change save as type: to CSV Files.
  • Enter in a Filename.
