Regular Expression searces do not work through ETP

I can connect to a ETP server and run a search without regular expressions and the results are the same, both locally on the ETP server and on the client.
However, no results come back when I use a regular expression on the client machine, where as the copy/pasted search term brings up the expected results on the server itself.

Both instances are running with "Use Regular Expression" enabled and in fact all the options are identical. The versions are both identical as well.
