Why 2 instances of Everything.exe

Post by jackh »

I look into my startup apps and find 2 instances of Everything.exe listed there. Why would there be 2 of them?
I have a total of 2 users on my PC. Is this the reason?

There should only be one Everything listed under Startup.

For each Everything shown:
  • Please right click Everything and click Properties.
  • What is shown for the filename at the top and location?

Please try toggling "Start Everything on system startup":
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Uncheck Start Everything on system startup.
  • Click Apply.
  • Check Start Everything on system startup.
  • Click OK.

If you are referring to Details/Processes, then yes, there are two processes:
One for the Everything Search Client. (manages the UI, performs your searches and maintains your index)
One for the Everything Service. (allows the Everything Search client to index and monitor NTFS volumes for changes)

The Everything Service will only use 1MB of RAM and no noticeable CPU.
