Don't know where you got that "Bytes" column from (not standard Everything, I think?), but the following should show the file-/foldersizes in bytes in the Bytes column.

Code: Select all

addcol:A    A-label:=Bytes   A:=FORMAT_SIZE($size:,1)

Type or paste it in the search bar.

You can add it at the end of your search query. Or at the beginning. Separate it from the rest of your search query with one or more spaces.

Or test it in a new window or tab.

There's no native Bytes column in Everything.

To show the size values in bytes:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the View tab on the left.
  • Change Size format to: Bytes
  • Click OK.

According to the Add Properies screenshot, the Bytes column came from Column 1 (added manually).

@tuska discovered (he is in Sherlock-mode today ;)) that the Total Bytes column will show the size in bytes, regardless of the Size Format setting. That would be a nice solution too in my opinion.

FWIW: the Bytes column is left aligned (text) instead of right-aligned (numbers).

Holy...the bytes values appear when adding that code to the search field. If only I had known that earlier. I didn't even know (anymore) something like this would be possible. That's great. But maybe a little impractical to each time add that code. What I meant, sorry for not having mentioned it, was that the values under "Bytes" would ALWAYS be displayed. Without any additions in the search field.

Many thanks for the screenshot! Such colors would also be great for the columns in Everything.
To show the size values in bytes:
Many thanks. Sorry for not having mentioned it, I wanted to keep the size in MB. And addiotiionally the bytes. Is there a way to show both sizes? Showing both of them in one column (e.g. the Size column) would be great.

The Total size values have to be indexed separetely? They are not shown for offline drives here. For online drives only obviously.

I just saw the values under the "Bytes" column are shown with me, even for offline drives with special filters. But how do I get that column working generally, so in "General", tab "Home"?

Thank you very much for that great screenshot!

I am very sorry, I am not quite 99 % clear what this means. Perhaps a few words might help.

The "Size" column shown in the image with the setting: Size format "Auto"
seems to correspond exactly to your requirements.

I have displayed the "Total Size" column, which shows "Bytes", as an additional option - just in case,
that someone also wants to have the bytes displayed separately. That was your next thought, wasn't it ;)

Ah, yes, thank you!

Yes, yes, true, a column for MB / autmatic size and bytes.
The "Size" column shown in the image with the setting: Size format "Auto"
seems to correspond exactly to your requirements.
Yes, indeed, this column is perfect. It should stay as it is always (but that column wasn't the point). It shows bytes AND other units, that is great. I wanted an extra column (or even the same additionally) shown ONLY bytes.

Yes, that (showing the bytes in a different column) is exactly what I want. But:
The Total size values have to be indexed separetely? They are not shown for offline drives here. For online drives only obviously.
If yes, that wasn't quite what I wanted. NO extra indexing. And since the size of ALL folders/files is already indexed, it would be good if the other size column could display the already indexed values converted into bytes (NOT have to be re-indexed).
